Small in stature, big on the course
Despite his small stature, Robinson rides big on the course, being named the Golden Crank "Pro of the Year" and taking home the Overall UCI BMX Supercross Series Championship in 2006. He also scored a win in the National Bicycle League Pro Title that year, and in June 2007, he captured the title at the inaugural USA Cycling BMX National Championship.
He started young
Robinson started competing in BMX events when he was only 6 years old, and he credits his drive and determination for his success on the dirt, turning professional in 2002 after winning multiple junior titles. His rise to the top has been a fast one, and now at the age of 24, he is currently ranked No. 1 in world ranking points.
Robinson is putting his aspirations to star on Broadway on the back burner, as he has qualified for the first ever installment of BMX as a medal event and is going to the Beijing Olympics. Robinson caught the Broadway bug when he was singing in his middle school choir and met a 17-year-old choreographer who had started a dance studio in her garage. Soon after, Robinson started performing with her at fairs and schools.
I'll take the train, thank you
Robinson is scared to death of flying. But on the bike he's perfectly chill. In fact, he first talked to his girlfriend Tiffany while on his bike. Robinson says that he would have been too nervous to talk to her off his bike, but on his bike, he's super confident and he was able to work up the nerve.
Donny chose his National Bicycle League riding number because he says he liked how it looked, and it's also the number worn by moto rider Ernesto Fonseca.
All Olympic merchandise is marked down. Act now, because when it's gone…it's gone!
