Two birds, one stone
In November 2006, Argentina surprised 2004 silver medallists Brazil, 2-0, to win the South American crown on home turf.  The victory qualified the 'Albiceleste' for two tournaments simultaneously: the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup and the 2008 Olympics. Eva Nadia Gonzalez scored the all-important first goal in the penultimate match and held Brazilian stars Cristiane and Elaine off their games.

Consolation goal
Argentina had a tournament to forget at the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup, getting blown out by eventual champions Germany, 11-0, in their opener and leaving China winless. Their one moment of consolation came when Gonzalez scored on a bending free kick in the group finale against England.  Unfortunately, Gonzalez also scored an own-goal on a misplaced header in the 6-1 loss.

Boca: Girls club
Gonzalez and many of her teammates play club soccer for one of the historic clubs in Argentina: Boca Juniors. Famous players to suit up for the blue-and-yellow are Diego Maradona, Gabriel Batistuta, Carlos Tevez and current Argentina Olympian Juan Riquelme. The women cannot boast such name recognition, despite winning the domestic Primera Division title in 2007. Gonzalez may change that.
