Played at the Beijing University of Technology Gymnasium from August 9-17, the Olympic badminton competition will feature five events:
Each event will be played in tournament-style format; one loss will eliminate the individual or the team from Olympic competition. The singles' draws will be no larger than 64 competitors and the doubles' draws will see no more than 16 pairs entered.
The May 1, 2008, Badminton World Federation ranking will be used to name 38 singles players for each men and women and to name all 48 doubles teams for men's, women's and mixed competitions.
