Nicaragua has never won an Olympic medal. First competed in 1968. Participated in every Games since then until 1988, when it claimed that it could not attend the Seoul Olympics because of a lack of money caused by its civil war. Returned to the Games in 1992.

Nicaragua is not expected to contend for a medal at the Beijing Games.
